Delete your account

Last updated: 15 August 2026

You can delete your Sumzy account at any time — from inside the app, or by email if you can't reach it. This page explains both routes, exactly what is removed, and what is kept so the people you shared expenses with aren't left with broken balances.

Option 1 — In the app

This is the fastest way and works whenever you can sign in:

  1. Open Sumzy and go to Account.
  2. Tap Delete account permanently.
  3. Confirm that you want to delete your account.
  4. Enter the one-time code we email you to re-verify it's really you. Once verified, your account is deleted.

Want a copy of your data first? Email and ask for one before you delete — deletion cannot be undone.

Option 2 — By email

If you can no longer access the app, you can still request deletion:

Email from the email address on your Sumzy account and ask us to delete it. We use the sending address to confirm the request is yours, then process the deletion described below.

What gets erased

Deleting your account permanently removes your personal information:

What is kept, and why

Sumzy expenses are shared — a dinner you split still appears in your friends' history and still affects what they owe each other. If we deleted those records outright, everyone else's balances would become wrong.

So instead of erasing shared records, we anonymize your account. Your entries in the shared ledger stay, but they are tied to an internal identifier that no longer contains your name, email, or avatar and no longer identifies you. Your former group members simply see an anonymized participant, and their balances remain correct.

This is irreversible. Once your account is deleted and anonymized, it cannot be restored and your personal details cannot be recovered. Ask us for a copy by email first if you want to keep one.
